Today I was sitting in French class (well Intro French, but who cares) and I was thinking. I got an EXCELLENT idea!!! So I thought, why not go to France? By the way, my name’s Colette (its French). Anyway, I mean I really want to go there and it would be a once in a lifetime chance. You know? I’m only twelve, but who said kids can’t go to foreign countries by themselves? Well, actually I wouldn’t go by myself. I would go with my brother and sister, Claude and Isabelle. My parents definitely wouldn’t let me go by myself! Claude and Izzy (Isabelle) are twins and are nineteen years old. Claude goes to the Naval Academy and Izzy goes to UMBC. I want to follow in Claude’s footsteps. Back to the point. I mean we could go like NOW because Claude’s allowed to be away during the summer and Izzy can get some time off from her job at Hollister. Oh yeah that’s right! Discounts to my favorite store! Yeah, so it would be AWESOME if we could go. Well, I got to go because I have school tomorrow and I have to study for my Algebra test. Mr. Mayer is sooo strict and makes us study for everything. He even makes our parents sign our agendas to make sure that we studied. Talk about crazy!

So, I’m sitting in Miss Davey’s 3rd Pd. Science class and I just finished my exam so I am writing in here. Well, my dad, Didier, was born and raised in France. He was the owner of a small café named Café Du Monde. That’s French for café of the world. My mom, Carol, was there as a foreign exchange student. (My mom was twenty one while my dad was twenty eight. Yes, they are seven years apart.) My mom decided to go to Café Du Monde one day and… SURPRISE! She met my dad. They fell in love and just had to get married. My mom didn’t want to live in France because she couldn’t be away from her family. Well I guess she WANTED to live there, but just couldn’t. They got married in France and invited the whole family. Their honeymoon was in Tahiti and then they came to America and settled down in our four bedroom, three bathroom house in Maryland. And… here I am! My grandparents on my dad’s side still live in Paris, so that’s why I thought we should go there. We could stay with them! Our family goes there every Thanksgiving, but since Claude was in the Academy and we wanted to go as a family, we couldn’t go. Well, ciao for now!

June 3rd 2006

Well today I asked Claude and Izzy what they thought of my plan and they loved it! All three of us want to see Grandmère and Grandpère and this would be the perfect opportunity. Now the challenge is asking mom and dad. Uh oh. Wish me luck!!!

June 3rd 2006: 11 PM

Tomorrow is Saturday so that is why I’m up so late. Guess what?!?! I asked mom and dad if we could go and they said its fine by them! Now we just have to run the idea by my grandparents and we are heading to Paris!! I’m sure they are going to let us stay there. Right? Anyway, I can’t believe it! Hold on, mom’s calling me. Got to go.

June 4th 2006

When I woke up, I called Grandmère (we have to use a calling card) and she said we could stay there!!!!!! She actually sounded really excited which is rare because she complains a lot! But now we just have to get the tickets and we’ll be on our way!

June 6th 2006

I can’t believe we are leaving in two days! That’s all I have to say.

June 7th 2006

We’re leaving tomorrow!!! Right now, it’s 10 PM and we’re all up, even my dog Pierre. He’s a standard poodle and is huge! Before, when we left him alone for a couple of hours when we went to church, he jumped up on the counter and ate a pie! It was like a $14 pie! When we got back, we were wondering where it was and we finally found a chewed up pie pan in his bed. Well, all of our bags are in the hallway so when we wake up we don’t have to get anything together. Our flight is at 6 AM, but we have to get up at 4. Mom and Dad are dropping us off at the airport and I’m sure Mom will go crazy! I keep telling her everything is going to be fine, but she is still really worried. I am so excited!!!
