What increases your chance of having twins?

I’m just curious on this…
I was always told I’d have a high chance on having twins because we have 6 sets on my moms side of the family and I think 3 on my dads side and my husbands grandfather is a twin.
I don’t know whether that increases chances or was just made up…
No I’m not trying to have twins yet alone a baby… Just wondering
*let alone
that many sets of twins on both sides of the family would definitely increase the chances of having twins

I do believe it skips a generation. So if a grandfather is a twin its possible for you to have twins.

Genetics do play an increase to have twins, especially on your mother’s side. If it’s going to happen, it will, and except for taking fertility drugs, you can’t increase the possibility of having twins. Fertility drugs could also produce so many eggs that multiple births could occur, and it would only increase the chance of fraternal twins where 2 eggs make 2 babies, and not identical twins, where 1 egg splits into 2 babies.

Ive heard that with identical twins its just luck with the eggs splitting. But with fraternal (non-indentica) twins then there is a genetic link because the mother releases two ova that can then be fertisied by 2 diffferent sperms. So if the twins are on you mums side there is a chance you’ll have twins too.
*edit* If you use fertility drugs or IVF there is an increase in the chance of twins also.

I’ve always heard that having a history of twins increases your chances for having them yourself, but of course nature is unpredictable.
Race and age also (supposedly) play a factor in it. I found a page on babycenter.com that goes into more detail.
