i just looked this up.
~get a lot of folic acid. you can take vitamins for that or eat foods rich in that. i read that women who get pregnant with twins had more folic acid in their system.
~eat yams. im not sure why but they said that somewhere in africa there are one in twenty births are twins, they said they eat a lot of yams there.
~gain weight. over weight women have a higher change of twins.
~the older you are when you get pregnant the higher your chances.
they said that none of these things will guarantee twins but its worth a try.
References :
Nope- They say sweet potatoes help but you would have to eat them for years.

Twins come with a higher instance of pre-eclampsia, SIDS, placenta previa, twin to twin transfer and are often delayed for the first few years of life. Why would you want to try for that? I have twins and had kidney failure and the Dr. thought I had a heart attack on the operating table during my emergency c-section ( I did not). The extra attention you may receive during pregnancy and after is not worth all the worry and possible problems.. I love my boys but it was a very hard road to travel. Why not hope and pray for one healthy happy baby?
References :
Short of fertility meds / treatments which no reputable doctor would do simply to help you conceive twins . . . there is not much.

Some studies have shown a family history of fraternal twins on the maternal side is an indication of a gene that causes women to ovulation more than one egg increasing the chance of twins, being over 35, being slightly overweight, conceiving within a cycle or two of being on the birth control pill and possibly a diet high in dairy and/or yams slightly increases your chances . . . but not a "high chance"

Twin pregnancies are tough - you are considered higher risk. If all goes perfectly, you need to consider the cost of twins - both financially for twice the diapers and food and emotionally in caring for their needs. It is tough - I love my twins and wouldn't have it different . . . but I also would not wish it upon anyone!
