Explain that having two strollers for two babies is totally impractical unless you always plan on having two people to push them, as much as a double stroller offends him explain that it is the only way one person could handle both babies at once. I am 35 weeks pregnant and don't plan on getting a stroller until my baby out grows his infant car seat, because the seats do fit right in to a shopping cart. There is no way you would be able to grocery shop they way he wants to do it, you would need three people every time you went shopping two to push babies and one to push the store cart. His way sounds totally cute, but unless you have a full time nanny to help push a stroller around than it doesn't make much sense. Also strollers take up tons of room, so unless you have a SUV or van, where would you store them.
References :
This is my guess as to what's going on.

Dad hasn't had any say in anything regarding the kids. So now he's dug his heels into something irrational and is clinging to it to the death because it's the only thing he has to cling to.

So the question is, if one parent is taking both children out, how are they supposed to be pushed? Is he willing to wear one child while pushing the other?

If you want him to give on this, you'll have to give him another decision to have control over. Pick one that you've argued over and have gotten your way on, if you really want to give him the idea that his opinions are valid. Just a suggestion from a guy who has been backed into a corner more than once and has defended a stupid idea to the death, even if I know it's stupid. Pride.
References :
He's just not being practical. How on Earth are either one of you, or your parents or your family members going to take both babies for a stroll at the same time if you're by yourselves? That's just ridiculous. Are you going to push one stroller half way down the sidewalk, then run back for the other one and push it too? WTF? These children aren't going to have two or more people taking care of them at all times of their infancy. Get a custom made twin stroller in a color he likes or make him decorate a regular twin stroller to suit him.
References :
I would advise getting a twin stroller and then like you said, use the car seat/carriers for shopping carts etc. Ask him what you are supposed to do when you have the twins by yourself...how are you going to push two different strollers, its about convience as well as price, there will be times that you will be on the go with them alone.. remind him of that..lol. Also, even if the two of you are together grocery shopping, who will push the second stroller? Someone will also be pushing a shopping cart for all of the groceries..lol. I am just trying to think of scenario's where a twin stroller is pretty much a must, which in every day life, it almost is. You could get a great, custom, and high performance stroller (if you want) for the price of two travel systems. I hope this helps.
